Miss Lorene Brown and Mr. Charlie Brown entertained a large number of young people from the town at a swimming party Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 o’clock. “Brown’s Lake” has been a joyful rendevous for the younger set throughout the summer, and the party Wednesday afternoon was a merry one, with watermelon as a climax.

Mont Amonea vs. Farm Life School

Miss Lorene Brown, manager of the basket ball team at Mont Amoena, accompanied the girls to China Grove Tuesday afternoon where a match game was played between Mont Amoena and the Farm Life School girls. At the close of the game, the score was 28 to 2 in favor of Mont Amoena. The Mt. Pleasant team is composed of Misses Ethyl Eudy, jumping center; Ruth Beckerdite, side center, Elfreda Schroder and Vain Earnhardt, goal pitchers, and Mary Belle Umberger and Julia English, guards.

Mr. Sam Brown, of this place, went to Duke Hospital Friday to furnish blood for transfusion to be administered to his cousin, Miss Lorene Brown, who is undergoing treatment, preparing for and operation. Miss Brown taught in our school here for three or four years and was active in every progressive move for a better school and community. Her Many friends wish her a successful operation and speedy recovery.

Mrs. Jas. W. Brown of this city, and Mrs. R. A. Goodman of Newberry College, S. C. spent the weekend on a visit to Miss Lorene Brown who is a patient at Duke Hospital, Durham. Miss Brown has been undergoing treatment there for some time, and at times seemed to improve, but her numerous friends will be sorry to hear that at present she does not improve.

Miss Lorene Brown Dies at Mooresville

Mooresville, Aug. 22 – Miss Lorene Brown, about 30 years old, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Brown, died at her home just outside of town this morning at 7:30 o’clock after an extended illness. She had been a patient at the Duke hospital at Durham for some time and was just recently brought to her home here.

She is survived by her parents, and by the several brothers and a large circle of relatives and friends.
