MRS. C. L. T. FISHER

Mrs. Mary Horner Fisher, 89, widow of the Rev. Charles Lee Thorton Fisher, died last night at her home, 1002 Federal St., after a long illness.

Born July 31, 1862, in Adams County, Pa., she was the daughter of Newton McKee and Sarah Waybright Horner, members of pioneer families of southern Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Mrs. Fisher was educated at Miss McClellan’s School in Gettysburg Pa., and at Maryland College, Lutherville, Md.

After her marriage to the Rev. Mr. Fisher, they spent the first three years of their married live as home missionaries in Nebraska. Later Mrs. Fisher assisted her husband when he was president of Mont Amoena Seminary, Mount Pleasant, N.C. and when he was vice president of Elizabeth College, Charlotte, N.C., his native state.

From 1907 to 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher lived in Lynchburg. After the clergyman’s retirement from Mont Amoena in 1927 they returned to this city to make their home.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by her daughter, Mrs. James A. Stall of Lynchburg; a son, Horner C. Fisher; a granddaughter, Miss Jean Fisher, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and a number of nieces and nephews, who live in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Mrs. Fisher was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant, where her husband held his last pastorate.

Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the home.

Death Claims Mrs. Fisher At Lynchburg

News of the death of Mrs. Mary Horner Fisher, widow of the Rev. Charles Lee Thornton Fisher, at her homer, 1002 Federal St., Lynchburg, Va., last Friday night has been received in Charlotte. Many years ago Mr. Fisher was vice president of Elizabeth College in Charlotte. Death followed a long illness.

Mrs. Fisher, who was born July 31, 1862, in Adams County, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Newton McKee Fisher and Sarah Waybright Horner, was nearing her ninetieth birthday. She was educated at Miss McClellan’s School in Gettysburg, Pa., and at Maryland College, Lutherville, Md.

After her marriage to Mr. Fisher they were home missionaries in Nebraska a few years. Subsequently she assisted her husband during his presidency at Mont Amoena Seminary, Mt. Pleasant, Cabarrus County, and while he was vice president of Elizabeth College, Charlotte.

From 1907 to 1913 the Fishers lived in Lynchburg, and in 1927 they returned to that city to make their home after his retirement from administrative duties in the field of education. He, parenthetically, was a native of North Carolina.

Funeral services were held Monday at the home in Lynchburg.
