Rites Held For Miss Harward Former Teacher
Funeral services for Miss Ila Clementine Harward, 86, of 119 South Broome Street, Albemarle, a retired public school teacher who taught for many years at North Albemarle School, were conducted at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in First Lutheran Church, Albemarle where she was an active member.
Pastor John M. Hawn officiated and interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
Miss Harward died shortly after midnight Thursday in Stanly Memorial Hospital following several months of illness. A member of one of Stanly County’s pioneer families, she was born March 22, 1895, in Stanly County and was a daughter of the late Jacob Myrick and Mary Lauretta Coble Harward. She graduated from Mont Amoena Seminary in Mount Pleasant and attended Lenoir Rhyne College.
She had been a Sunday School teacher at her church all of her life and at the time of her death was a teacher of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also an active member of Circle Number Three of Lutheran Church Women.
Miss Harward is survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. P. Brown of Winston-Salem and Mrs. L. M. Almond and Mrs. Roscoe Whitley, both of Albemarle.
Pallbearers were Ashton Laine, Ray Lybrand, Bob Morris, Hillard Whitley, Grover Thompson and Charles Lefler, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Albemarle Unit of north Carolina Lutheran Homes or to the First Lutheran Church, Albemarle.
Arrangements were by Lefler Funeral Home.
