Mr. Hiram Brown and Miss Ethel Josey, of Faith, were married Saturday at the Lutheran parsonage by Rev. G. O. Ritchie. Mrs. Brown is a graduate of the Mont Amoena Seminary at Mt. Pleasant and is a fine young lady and one of the county’s good school teachers. Mr. Brown is the son of the late E. A. Brown, who has been living with his mother in Faith and is a fine young man. Venus and their many friends wish them a long and happy life.

Mrs. Ethel Brown

ELBERTON, Ga. – Mrs. Ethel Mae Josey Brown, 83, of Elberton, widow of Hiram Berlin Brown, died Wednesday at Elberton – Elbert County Hospital.

Born in Faith, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Aldridge and Annie Burrage Josey. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elberton.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John F. Brown Sr., of Elberton; sister, Mrs. Ruby White of Salisbury, N.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Services at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Michael W. Lemke. Burial in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The body is at Hicks Funeral Home. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Brown Sr., Bowman Highway.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elberton.

In the Matter of H. L. Barger , Guardian of Ethel May Josey

The petition of H. F. Barger respectfully shows :

  1. That he is the general guardian of Ethel May Josey, who is about twenty years of age.
  2. That the only property owned by said ward is a house and lot situate at Faith, N. C., described by metes and bounds as follows, “beginning at a stone, Peeler’s corner, and runs thence with his line, N. 88 deg. W. 3.75 chains to a stone, a new corner; thence N. E. 1.22 chains to a stone, thence S. 74 . E. 3, 14 chains to a stone in the Mt. Pleasant road, thence with said road, s. 17 ½ deg. E. 2.10 chains to the beginning, containing one – half acre more or less”.
  3. That the income from said property when rented is $ 3.50 per month; that there are no funds in the hands of your petitioner belonging to said ward at this time.
  4. That said ward was a student last year at Mt. Amoena Seminary, Mt. Pleasant, N. C. that she is very desirous of continuing her studies at said institution during the coming session; that she has been given a special rate for tuition and board for the coming session at the price of $175.00; that if said ward is permitted to continue her studies during the present session she will be greatly benefited and will be capable of maintaining her support by teaching etc.
  5. That in order for petitioners’ ward

    to persue her studies , it will be necessary to borrow two – hundred dollars and to secure the same by a mortgage up her property at the Wachovia Bank & Trust Company has consented to make a loan upon said property in order to permit the said ward to continue her studies and to more properly fit her for life work; that in the opinion of your petitioner, it will be for the best interest of said ward to continue her studies and to borrow $ 200.00 from said bank for such purpose.

Wherefore your petitioner prays the Court that he be authorized, directed and empowered to borrow $ 200.00 from the Wachovia Bank & Trust Company for the purpose of permitting said ward to contime her studies in school and to secure said amount by placing a first mortgage upon the property of said ward, the note to be due and payable in Twelve months and to bear interest from date at the rate of 60 per annum.

This cause coming on to be heard

upon the reading of the verified petition of H. L. Barger, guardian, and being heard, and it appearing to the Court.

That Ethel May Josey, the ward of H. L. Barger, is about twenty years of age and is desirous of continuing her studies at Mt. Amoena Seminary, and that she has been offered a special rate for tution and board for the present session at the price of $175.00 and that the Wachovia Bank & Trust Company has consented to make a loan of $200.00 upon the property of said ward, for the purpose of permitting said ward to continue her studies at said school and to that end to borrow $200.00 from the Wachovia Bank & Trust Company, secured by first Mortgage upon her property.

It is therefore, upon motion of Rendleman & Rendleman, attorneys, ordered and adjudged that H. L. Barger, guardian, of Ethel May Josey, he and he is hereby authorized, empowered and directed to borrow from the Wachovia Bank & Trust Company the sum of $200.00 and to execute his note as guardian therefor, and to secure said note by a first Mortgage upon the property of said Ethel May Josey, said note and mortgage to be due and payable twelve months from date, and to bear interest at the rate of 6% per annum after maturity.

It is further ordered that H. L. Barger, guardian, pay the cost of this proceeding, including attorney fee of $—- to John L. Rendleman.
