A Novel Wedding

Quite a novel wedding took place at the residence of Rev. S. F. Conrad, on Sunday morning. The contracting parties were Marvin Wiley, of Lincolnton, son of Rev. A. E. Wiley, and Miss Florence Long, of Union county. Miss Long is assistant teacher, with her brother, at Belmont. Mr. Wiley visited her at her home and accompanied her back to Belmont. While on the way they concluded they would unite their destinies for life, and in Monroe license were procured and on arrival at Charlotte they repaired to Rev. Mr. Conrad’s house. The train was late, and by the time all was in readiness the new day and the last of 1899 had arrived. About 1 o’clock Sunday morning the knowt was tied. The parties took the noon train for Belmont. Mr. Wiley contemplates the study of medicine and will soon enter college at Richmond, Va.

Florence Wiley, Retired Teacher

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Florence Long Wiley, 101, widow of Theodore Marvin Wiley, died Thursday at Cheraw Nursing Home.

Born in Union County, N. C., she was a daughter of the late William Green and Sarah Ellen Austin Long. She was a retired teacher.

Surviving are three sons, Robert Hugh Wiley of Key West, Fla., William A. Wiley of Weaverville, N. C., and Dr. Walter R. Wiley of Chesterfield; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen W. Dozier of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Osee Long Johnson of Richmond; 12 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church, Monroe, N.C.
