Mt. Pleasant, June 4 – Misses Ella Moose, Annie Welsh, Mary Heilig and Ora Fisher left this morning for Newberry, S.C., to be present at the Marriage of Miss Myrtle Matthews and Mr. PW Smith, Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. Miss Moose will be one of the brides maids and Miss Welsh will play the wedding march. The bride has many friends in Mt Pleasant who extend best wishes and congratulations. She spent several happy years at Mont Amoena and is a member of the class of ’05.

Mrs. Myrtle Matthews Smith, 99, of Columbia, widow of William Pickney Smith died Saturday.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Ezekiel Perry and Edith Langford Matthews. She was a 1905 graduate of Mont Amoena Female Seminary at Mount Pleasant, N.C., and a member of the King’s Daughters and Shandon Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Billy D. Lowe of Columbia, Mrs. Charles H. Valentine of Ruffin and Mrs. John P. Mullaney of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. John R. Lincoln. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be the following grandsons, Perry and Olin Smith, Allen and Dan Lowe, Jack Reynolds, Charles Valentine and Franchie DuBose.
