Pleasant, North Carolina, where she majored in music. She was church pianist for 25 to 30 years. She was Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Wilson, North Carolina. In 1967, she was chosen as District Mother of the Year by the Home Demonstration Clubs. She received a Certificate of Merit from the American Mothers Committee of North Carolina.
