… Aside from Prof. Fisher, Miss Cora Ballard, teacher of art, was perhaps the heaviest loser from the fire. She lost her entire collections of paintings valued at not less than five hundred dollars, besides other valuables.

BALLARD–ALSTON
A very simple but impressive ceremony took place yesterday morning at 11 o’clock at the home of Mrs. John H. Meyers, 315 North Spring street, when Miss Cora Belle Ballard, a sister of Mrs. Meyers, was united in marriage with Arch D. Alston, of Pittsburgh, Pa. Rev. W. F. Womble, presiding elder of the Greensboro district of the Methodist Episcopal church, south, officiated, using the ring ceremony.
The vows were spoken in the presence of a few intimate friends and relatives. Those attending from out of town were as follows:
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Ballard, of Lincolnton, parents of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis S. Ballard, of Lincolnton; Edward Alston, of Warrenton, uncle of the bridegroom; W. F. Alston, of Warrenton, brother of the bridegroom; Miss Helen Brown, of Durham.
Immediately following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Alston motored to Warrenton where they will spend a few days with relatives before leaving for Pittsburgh, Pa., where they will live.

MRS. ARCH D. ALSTON DIES AT LINCOLNTON

LINCOLNTON, Aug. 8—Mrs. Arch D. Alston, formerly Miss Cora Belle Ballard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Ballard, of East Lincoln county, died at the home of her parents, August 6 after several weeks illness.
She had been treated for a number of weeks at Johns Hopkins hospital, Baltimore, Md., and Presbyterian hospital of Charlotte, later being removed to the home of her parents.
Mrs. Alston was educated at Davenport college of the class of 1911. After graduating she taught art in Mt. Amoena seminary, Catawba college and Claremont college, and in the city schools of Mt. Airy and Dunn.
On April 15, 1924, she was married to Arch D. Alston, of Warrenton.
She is survived by her husband, father and mother and the following brothers and sisters: J. B., R. A., and Louis S. Ballard, of Alexis; Rev. D. C. Ballard, of Polkton; Rev. F. D. Ballard, of Marion; Mrs. James H. Meyers, Misses Leckie and Minnie Sue Ballard, of Greensboro, and Miss Carrie Ballard, of Alexis.
The funeral was conducted from New Hope Methodist church of which she was a faithful member and interment in the cemetery at this place.
