Elizabeth Biles
Frances Elizabeth (Lib) Biles, 87, formerly of North forth Street, Albemarle, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, 1992, in Altamont Retirement Center in Birmingham, Ala.
Her funeral was at graveside today in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, conducted by The Rev. Ji Clifford.
Miss Biles was born in Cabarrus County July 23, 1904, a daughter of the late Rubin and Bertha Biles, and lived for many years in Albemarle. A graduate of Mont Amoena Seminary in Mount Pleasant and Greensboro College, she earned her masters degree from Winthrop College and took advanced art courses at New York University.
A pioneer in the education of exceptional children, Miss Biles began her teaching career in New London and after teaching for many years at Dilworth School in Charlotte returned to Albemarle to teach at North Albemarle Elementary School until she retired. She was a member of Xi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority in Albemarle.
Surviving are three cousins, Maxine Morris Douglas and Ann Dougla Henagan, both of Birmingham, and Emily Pounds Gwinn of Albemarle.
