…There have been a few changes in the faculty…Miss Mildred Blomgren, from Rock Island, Ill., is the teacher of English. She is a graduate of Augustana college, co-educational, of which institution her father is a professor of theology.

MISS BLOMGREN WEDS SOUTHERN MINISTER IN MT. PLEASANT, NC

Davenport friends will be interested in the announcement of the marriage of Miss Mildred Hildegard Ione Blomgren, daughter of the late Dr. C. A. Blomgren, professor at Augusta college, Rock Island, to the Rev. Leroy Blackwelder of Faith, N. C. The ceremony took place Wednesday Aug. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Mount Pleasant, N. C.

The Rev. and Mrs. Blackwelder have gone to Ashland, N. C. for their wedding trip and will make their home in Faith where the bridegroom is pastor of the English Lutheran synod of the south.

The bride attended Augustana academy and took three years of her college work at the college graduating from Elizabeth college, Salem, Va., in 1921. For several years she taught at Mont Amonea [sic] for Girls at Mount Pleasant and last year was a teacher at the Lankenau Girls’ school in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Blackwelder is a niece of Mrs. G. L. Lindstedt, 320 Fifteenth avenue, East Moline.

Mrs. Mildred Blomgren Blackwelder

Gastonia, NC … Mrs. Mildred Blomgren Blackwelder, age 85, died Tuesday, March 12, 1985, at the NC Lutheran Home, Salisbury, NC, where she had been a resident for three years. A native of Lowell, MA, she was born July 17, 1899 to the late Rev. Dr. Carl A. Blomgren and Sigrid Soderberg Blomgren. She attended the Academy of Augusta College – Augusta College, Rock Island, IL, and graduated with an A.B. Degree from Elizabeth College, Salem, VA, Class of 1921. She taught in the Public schools of SC, SD, and Mt. Pleasant, NC. She married the Rev. Dr. Leroy Emerson Blackwelder in 1927 and was active at the Lutheran Churches at Faith, Mooresville, NC, and the Lowman Home, White Rock, SC. She moved with her husband to Gastonia, NC upon his retirement in 1961, where she was active with her husband in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gastonia, NC. Active in the NC Synod of the Lutheran Church Women, she had served as President and member of the Executive Board. Mrs. Blackwelder is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Phylis B. Perry of Gastonia, NC; a granddaughter, Mrs. Milda P. Minter; a great-granddaughter, Shannon Minter, both of Agua Dulce, CA; a sister, Mrs. Svanhild B. Peterson of Joplin, MO; and nieces and nephews of st. Paul, MN. Graveside services will be conducted at 4 PM Thursday, March 14, 1985, in the Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery, Concord, NC by the Rev. C. Peter Setzer. Memorials may be made to the NC Lutheran Home, 820 Klumac Road, Salisbury, NC 28144. Funeral under the direction of McLean & Son, Gastonia, NC.
