MOUNT PLEASANT – Ruth Regina Cress, 99, Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home, formerly of 1340 N. Main St., died Tuesday (Sept. 19, 2000) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 17, 1901, in Mount Pleasant, Miss Cress, a daughter of the late C.R.P. and Frances Walker Cress, was a 1921 graduate of Mont Amoena Seminary. She was also educated at Chapel Hill, Appalachian College and Catawba College, Salisbury.
A retired elementary school teacher, she taught in the Davidson County and Lexington City schools for 21 years, with the Cabarrus County schools for 21 years, Rowan County schools for two years and the Randolph County schools for a year.
She was a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society.
Miss Cress was also a member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Concord.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, conducted by the Rev. Donald Deal. Burial, St. John’s Lutheran Church cemetery, Concord.
Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Gordon Funeral Home.
