A Popular Couple Married
In No. 10 township, at the home of Mr. M. M. Furr, one of the most excellent and noble young ladies of the county, was married Wednesday night to Mr. H. Thomas Tucker, son of Mr. Ephraim Tucker. The Standard wishes the young couple all the pleasure and happiness that admiration can suggest.

Mrs. Tucker Feted on 97th Birthday.
Mrs. Electa Tucker was honored at a Sunday dinner at her home in Midland in celebration of her 97th birthday anniversary observed October 30.
Mrs. Tucker, the former Miss Cora Electa Furr, was born on October 30, 1869, a daughter of the late Moses M. and Mrs. Abigail Barbee Furr.
The honoree is the mother of four sons and three daughters. Ed Tucker, who was associated with Efird’s Department Store for many years , and remained with the chain after it was bought by Belk’s, is now associated with the firm in Columbia, S. C. Another son, Ward, is a restaurant supervisor in Wilmington; and another, Hugh of the home, is associated with an insurance firm. Another son, Fred, died several years ago.
Mrs. Tucker’s daughters are Mrs. J. Lee Brooks of Spencer, Mrs. G. W. Barrier of Asheville, and Mrs. Dan Moore of Durham.
A member of Bethel Methodist Church, Mrs. Tucker has been active in church work until she was injured in a fall.
Mrs. Tucker has two living sister, Miss Daisy Furr and Miss Bess Furr, who were present for the birthday dinner.

MRS. CORA ELECTA TUCKER
MIDLAND – Mrs. Cora Electa Tucker, age 98, died Wednesday night, Feb. 14, 1968 in Monroe convalescent home. Born Oct. 30, 1869 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late M. M. Furr and Abigail Barbee Furr. Her husband was the late Hiram Thomas Tucker. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church and a retired school teacher. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Earl Hartsell, with burial in the Bethel Methodist Church cemetery. Surviving are three sons, Hugh Tucker of Midland, Ward Tucker of Chester, S. C., Edgar M. Tucker of Columbia, S. C.; three daughters, Mrs. Atha Barrino of Arlington, Va., Mrs. Abbie Brooks of Spencer, N. C., Mrs. D. P. Miller of Durham, N. C.; two sisters, Miss Daisy Furr, Miss Bessie Furr, both of Midland; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Worth Green, Marvin Widenhouse, Bill Widenhouse, Baker Brooks, William Furr and Will Misenheimer. The body will remain at the funeral home.
