TUCKER – Died at Mt. Pleasant, N.C., on the 22nd of Jan. 1886, Mary Lue Tucker, wife of W. T. Tucker, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Kindley. She was born on the 5th of March 1860, was educated at Mt. Pleasant Female Seminary and G. F. College [Greensboro Female College], was converted to God and joined the M.E. Church, South, under the ministry of Rev. J. P. Simpson, in her 14th year, and lived and died devoted to its interest and in love with its altars. Her religion was a never failing dominant power of her life, she seemed to dwell constantly in a realm of quiet unquestioning, yet undamonstrative assurance. If she had a doubt of her acceptance at a throne of grace she did not reveal it.
On Jan. 15th 1878 she was married to W. T. Tucker, with whom she lived happily for more than eight years, a number of these years she spent in suffering but did not complain.
When she neared the last river and sniffed the breezes of heaven, ladened with odors of the life immortal, she was anxious to go, for with her, “to die was gain.” In speaking to her husband, she said: “I am sad at the thought of leaving you alone in the world, but I know I can’t live, and I am ready and willing to die.” and to a friend: “It seems like it takes me a long time to die.” and again, “I will soon be in heaven.” She requested her father and mother, brothers and sisters to meet her in heaven. She gave special directions as to where and how she wished to be buried, and the quetly, gently, peacefully, as a babe lies down in its mother’s arms to sleep, she folded her hands and closed her eyes in death, and her spirit clothed in garments pure and white, passed to the shining shore, and thro’ the gates of pearl on the golden hinges turing, forever home.
She was buried from Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, Sunday Jan. 24th, in the Methodist cemetery to await the day when they that are in their graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God and come forth. We shall meet again in the sweet by and by. – G. A. Oglesby.
