WALKER-CRESS

CONCORD, Feb. 4 – A quiet wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Walker, when their daughter, Miss Cora, became the bride of Jay L. Cress.

The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Walker, brother and sister of the young couple. The ring bearer, Master J. D. Walker, nephew of the bride, preceded the bride and groom carrying the ring on a white satin pillow.

Rev. L. D. Miller, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran church, performed the ceremony in the presence of a few friends and relatives.

The bride received her education at Mont Amoena seminary, Mt. Pleasant.

The groom is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Cress. He was educated at Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute and Newberry College, Newberry, S. C.

CORA W. CRESS

MOUNT PLEASANT — Cora Walker Cress, 92, of Rt. 5, Concord, died Sunday at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 10, 1892, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late John Walker and Minnie Faggart Walker.

Survivors include her husband, Jay Lewis Cress; two sons, Joe Cress of Concord and Lewis Cress of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Alice Hurlocker of Concord and Ruth Owens of Hickory; a brother, the Rev. James Walker of Concord; a sister, Annie Peninger of Mount Pleasant; and nine grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Ted Goins at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Gordon-Peninger Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Concord.
