The 1869-1870 catalog for Mount Pleasant Female Seminary declared, “It will be the constant aim of the Faculty to prepare young ladies for an intelligent and cheerful performance of the duties of subsequent life. They will endeavor to unite the cultivated mind, the sanctified heart, refined manners, and a healthy development of physical powers.”
